Navidad en Huaycán

A week before Christmas, on December 17, our team ofvolunteers went to Huaycan in order to bring joy and presents to ourgodchildren from the PRONOEI “Gotitas Del Saber”.( A public kindergarden in a shanty town ).

Ya en vísperas de la navidad el sábado 17 de diciembre salimos camino a Huaycán,para llevarles muchas sorpresas y regalos a nuestros ahijados del PRONOEI“Gotitas Del Saber”.

During the trip, we coordinated with our volunteersabout our roles during the sharing time with the kids… we prayed together forthe success of our plans.

En pleno viaje, coordinamos connuestros voluntarios sobre las actividades que realizaríamos… Y oramos para queel señor nos guie y todo salga como lo planeamos.

All hands on board!!....We were full of enthusiasm.…First, we began with a coloring activity. Each kid received a paper with aChristmas drawing ( the birth of Jesus).

Llegamos cargados de energía ynos pusimos manos a la obra… Primero iniciamos con una linda manualidad. Cadaniño recibió una ficha con el dibujo del nacimiento del niño Jesús.

The kids enjoyed painting and beautifying theirdrawings.

Los niños se divirtieron pintandoy adornando sus dibujos.

After that, they cut them out to paste them over acard we had already prepared.

Luego procedimos a cortar y pegarsobre una base de cartón forrada que ya teníamos preparado.

They also pasted over their cards the great messageof…… “God’s peace and God’s love reign in your family”.

Por ultimo pegamos algo muyimportante…el mensaje: “Que la paz y el amor del Señor reinen en tu hogar”.

Later, we staged a theater “The shoemaker and thelittle goblins”. It was about an old shoemaker named Jepeto who was so poor andhe lived with his wife Jacinta. Both were not sofortunate and they sold shoes.

Tiempo después, presentamos unaobra teatral “El zapatero y los duendecillos”. Narraba la historia de un viejozapatero Jepeto muy pobre que vivía con su esposa Jacinta, eran muy desdichadospues no lograban vender ni un zapato.

Jepeto cried out the Lord for help and that night,something amazing happened . Little goblins helped him to make wonderful shoeswhich were sold at a good price.. Jepeto and Jacinta thanked the goblins and they made clothes and food for the goblins and so they lived in joy forever.

Jepeto le imploro al señor por ayuda, y esa nochealgo mágico ocurrió; unos duendecillos lo ayudaron confeccionándole lindoszapatos los cuales pudo vender a muy buen precio.En agradecimiento, Jepeto y Jacinta les hicieron ropa nueva y mucha comida; y así vivieron muy felices y contentos.

Then, Carlos showed his abilities with the balls and gave us a great juggling show.

Despues, Carlos nos demostró sus habilidades con las pelotas y nos regalo un gran espectáculo de malabares.

That is how we wanted to share a Christmas message tothe kids in Huaycan: that it is more fulfilling and blessed to give thanreceive.

Es así como quisimos compartir elverdadero mensaje de la navidad, que es el acercamiento del hombre hacia Dios,y que no esperemos solo recibir, sino compartir lo poco o mucho que tengamos.

We also shared delicious chocolate milk with paneton(a special Christmas Italian bread) with the kids and after that, we handed outtheir presents.…

Compartimos una rica chocolatada y paneton con los niños, y luegoprocedimos a la entrega de los regalos…

It was a wonderful day!! Thanks to God and to ourvolunteers, we brought joy to our godchildren and families in Christmas.

Fue un día fenomenal, gracias adios y a nuestros voluntarios pudimos llevas un poquito de alegría y felicidada estos niños que tanto lo necesitan.

OUTING TO HUACHIPA ZOO

PASEO ALZOOLÓGICO DE HUACHIPA

We closed our annualprogram with an outing to Huachipa Zoo.

Cerramos nuestro programa annual con unpaseo al zoológico de Huachipa.

Weare so glad that throughout the year most of our kids were very punctual. Theouting to the zoo was not an exception. They arrived on time and were full ofenthusiasm.

Estamos muy contentos quea lo largo del año, la mayoría de nuestros niños fueron muy puntuales. El paseoal zoológico no fue una excepción. Ellos llegaron a tiempo y estaban llenos demucho entusiasmo.

Besidesenjoying the outing, our kids passed the test of obedience to keep together andto respect the instructions of our volunteers.

Además de disfrutar elpaseo, nuestros niños pasaron el test de obediencia en mantenerse juntos yrespetando todas las indicaciones de nuestros voluntarios.

In the lastweeks of September, we closed Cycle 4 in our kids club. Our kids were not only tested invalues and communication skills in English but they also had the chance toshare a good time together for “Children’s Day”.

En las últimassemanas de setiembre, cerramos nuestro 4to ciclo en nuestra casa club. Nuestrosniños no solamente fueron evaluados en valores y en habilidades de comunicaciónen Inglés sino además tuvieron la oportunidad de compartir un buen tiempojuntos por el “Día del Niño”.

DÍA DEL NIÑO ENHUAYCAN

On Saturday, October the 1st, we went to Huaycanbringing a lot of presents for our godchildren in PRONOEI “Gotitas del Saber”.

El Sábado 1ro de Octubre nos enrumbamoscamino a Huaycán llevando muchas sorpresas y regalos para nuestros ahijados delPRONOEI “Gotitas del Saber”.

Before this, we prepared a puppet and balloon showwith the help of our young volunteers.

Previamente preparamos un show de títeres y globos con la ayuda denuestros jóvenes voluntarios.

We arrived with enthusiasm and the kids welcomed usjoyfully!

¡Llegamos cargados de energía y losniños nos recibieron muy contentos!

Let’s start! In the puppet show, our volunteers stageda nice story….”THE GENEROUS CHICK” in which we taught our kids a message ofsolidarity and generosity.

¡Que comience la función! Nuestrosvoluntarios narraron en el show de títeres una bonita historia…”EL POLLITOGENEROSO”..donde les enseñamos a los niños un mensaje de solidaridad ygenerosidad.

In the balloon show, we made figures of animals forthe kids

En el show de globos, hicimos lindas figuras de animales para loschicos!

We started with the dog……after that, the giraffe, therabbit and finally a nice flower.

Primero comenzamos con el perro…despuéscon la jirafa, conejo y finalmente una linda flor.

Besides all that….each kid received a nicepresent….crayons for drawing a big smile and many candies to make their lifesweet

Pero eso no era todo...cada niño recibióun bonito regalo…unas crayolas para dibujarles una sonrisa, y muchas golosinaspara endulzarles la vida.

Finally, we took photos of all of us with the kids toremember the good time…Happy Children's Day!!

DÍA DE LAS MADRES 2011 EN HUAYCAN

As our faithful readers know, we are the godparents of a pronoei in Huaycan. We planned to visit them again on May 14 to be able to celebrate Mother's Day there.
Como nuestros lectores más fieles saben, somos padrinos de un pronoei ( Programa No escolarizado Infantil ) en Huaycan. We spent time to prepare for the visit, wrapping presents for the mothers.
Nos tomamos un tiempo para preparar la visita, envolviendo regalos para las madres.
We were also very glad to have the help of new volunteers Willy and Flor this time, together with our volunteer Sra. Nancy.
Tambien estuvimos muy contentos por la ayuda de nuestros nuevos voluntarios Willy y Flor, que unieron fuerzas con nuestra voluntaria Sra. Nancy.

When we reached there, the children and mothers were glad to see us. We started with a short game with the mothers, and then Sra. Nancy taught them about family planning.
Cuando llegamos a Huaycan, los niños y madres estuvieron muy contentos de vernos. Empezamos con un juego corto con las madres, y luego la Sra. Nancy les enseñó sobre planificación familiar.
In the meantime, the children were making cards for their mothers and learning to sing and dance!
Al mismo tiempo, los niños estuvieron haciendo sus tarjetas para sus madres y aprendiendo a cantar y a bailar!.
Later the children put on a show for their mothers.
Más tarde los niños presentaron un show para sus madres.
The mothers had a lucky draw and here are the winners!
Las madres participaron de una rifa y aquí tienen a las ganadoras!
Finally we gave out presents to the mothers and then we went out for a photo with all of them.
Finalmente entregamos presentes a las madres y luego salimos de las aulas para tomarnos una foto con todas ellas.
We were so glad to be able to touch this community again. Once again, thanks to our lovely volunteers.

Ceremonia de apertura KA! 2011

2011 On the 12th of march, we started our Kids Alive! Project 2011. El 12 de marzo, empezamos nuestro Proyecto Kids Alive! 2011.

It was an opportunity to welcome mothers from SOS-Zárate,SOS Chosica-Huarochirí and from the public to our new club-house in Salamanca. Fue una oportunidad para dar la bienvenida a las madres de SOS-Zárate, SOS Chosica-Huarochirí y a las madres del Público a nuestra nueva casa-club en Salamanca. Our new volunteers also joined us in this event. Nuestros nuevos voluntarios también se nos juntaron en este evento.We shared with all of them a brief history of our organization and about how the strong and committed spirit of service in our volunteers along the years, despite the lack of resources and difficulties we faced, have made it possible that we can celebrate the breakthroughs in our kids today. Compartimos con todos ellos una breve historia de nuestra organización y sobre como el fuerte y comprometido espíritu de servicio de nuestros voluntarios a lo largo de los años, a pesar de la falta de recursos y dificultades, ha hecho posible que hoy podamos celebrar el gran avance en nuestros niños.

It was also so touching to hear mothers´s testimonies. They are so grateful and put their trust in us, as we are doing well with their kids. También fue muy emocionante escuchar los testimonios de las madres. Ellas están muy agradecidas y ponen su confianza en nosotros por el buen trabajo que realizamos con sus niños.

Our mothers and volunteers experienced an enjoyable KA! model class led by our great professional volunteer , Miss Joan Yeo Keng Suan. Nuestras madres y voluntarios experimentaron una divertida clase modelo KA!(Kids Alive) dirigido por nuestra gran voluntaria profesional, Srta. Joan Yeo Keng Suan. Scissors, paper, stone!! Tijeras, papel, piedra!! What´s your name? My name is... ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Mi nombre es... It was a chance as well, to share with the mothers the new areas of our project in 2011: English songs for the younger ones and Theater & Public Speaking for the older ones. También fue una oportunidad, para compartir con las madres lo nuevo de nuestro proyecto en el 2011: canciones en Inglés para los más pequeños y Teatro & Oratoria para los más grandes. At the end of the ceremony, the new kids from the public and organizations were registered and it was also a good time to exchange impressions with our new volunteers. Al final de la ceremonia, los nuevos niños del público y de las organizaciones fueron matriculados y también fue un buen tiempo para intercambiar impresiones con nuestros nuevos voluntarios. This is the WINNING TEAM!! Este es el EQUIPO GANADOR!!

Along the year, our kids follow our value program “Chat & Discovery Time” in which they not only grow in their social skills and teamwork but also they grow in values.
A lo largo de los años, nuestros niños siguen nuestro programa de valores “Chat & Discovery Time” en el cual ellos no solamente crecen en habilidades sociales y en trabajo en equipo sino también crecen en valores.

In November, our “Chat & Discovery Time” was led by our youth volunteers who spent a wonderful time with our kids through physical exercises.
En Noviembre, nuestro “Chat & Discovery Time” fue guiado por nuestros jóvenes voluntarios quienes pasaron un tiempo grandioso con nuestros niños haciendo ejercicios físicos.

NAVIDAD EN HUAYCÁN

On Saturday 11th of December, our youth volunteers with a group of mothers visited Pronoei “Gotitas del Saber”, a public nursery located in the shanty town of Huaycan.
El sábado 11 de Diciembre, nuestros jóvenes voluntarios con un grupo de madres visitó el Pronoei “Gotitas del Saber”, una escuelita infantil pública localizada en el asentamiento humano de Huaycán.

The objective in that morning was not only to give presents but also to give the whole heart, smiles, joy and the spirit of sharing among the pre-school kids and their mothers with the message of: “Christmas is not just receiving gift but most importantly is sharing with others and giving to others”.
El objetivo en esa mañana no fue solamente dar presentes sino también dar el corazón completo, sonrisas, alegría y el espíritu de compartir entre los infantes y sus madres con el mensaje de: “Navidad no es sólo recibir regalos sino que más importante es compartir y dar a otros”.

FINAL DEL PROGRAMA KIDS ALIVE! 2010

In the last two quarters, we moved from Miraflores to our new club – house in Salamanca which has more spacious and comfortable rooms for our kids.
En los dos últimos trimestres, nos mudamos de Miraflores a nuestra nueva casa-club en Salamanca la cual tiene aulas más espaciosas y cómodas para nuestros niños.

Despite this big change, we were committed to the continuity of our programs and so were our kids.
A pesar de este gran cambio, estuvimos comprometidos con la continuidad de nuestros programas al igual que nuestros niños.

In our final report, three items are regarded as requirements for our kids to remain in our programs.
En nuestro reporte final, tres indicadores son considerados para que nuestros niños puedan permanecer en nuestros programas.

The first one is at the punctuality and attendance of all our kids. This year the average attendance was around 91% which is better than last year´s average that was about 86%.
El primero es la puntualidad y la asistencia de todos nuestros niños. Este año el promedio de asistencia estuvo alrededor del 91% lo cual es mejor que el promedio del año pasado que fue del 86%.
The second one is academic performance. This year, our kids scored higher grades in comparison to 2009.
El segundo es el rendimiento académico. Este año, nuestros niños obtuvieron mejores notas en comparación al 2009.
The last one but not least important is the behaviour and attitude of our kids. As last year, there were a few cases which were well-managed immediately through our strict code of conduct in order to ensure good relationships in our community.
El último pero no menos importante es el comportamiento y la actitud de nuestros niños. Como en el año pasado, hubieron pocos casos que fueron muy bien manejados de forma inmediata a través de nuestro estricto código de conducta para asegurar las buenas relaciones en nuestra comunidad.
In our closing event, on November 27th , we celebrated the breakthrough of our kids by taking an outing to a park close to our club-house “El Parque de los Anillos”.
En nuestro evento de clausura, el 27 de Noviembre, celebramos el avance de nuestros niños tomando un paseo a un parquet cercano a nuestra casa-club “El Parque de los Anillos”.

“DÍA DE LAS MADRES” EN KIDS ALIVE!

“Our mothers are priceless gifts from God”…..these words we welcomed the mothers from Aldeas Infantiles SOS in our “Mother´s Day” event.
“Nuestras madres son invalorables regalos de Dios”…..con estas palabras les dimos la bienvenida a las madres de Aldeas Infantiles SOS a nuestro evento por el “Día de las Madres”.
We are so happy for the good academic performance of our kids in our first cycle of “Kids Alive!”. More than 80% of them got good grades and the objectives we expected for the first cycle were achieved.
Estamos muy contentos por el buen rendimiento académico de nuestros niños en nuestro primer ciclo en “Kids Alive!”. Más del 80% de ellos obtuvo buenas notas y los objetivos que esperábamos para el primer ciclo fueron alcanzados.

Besides this, we are glad because our kids continue to grow positively in their attitude and behaviour. 3 years ago, they were kids with poor social skills, with a short attention span and unwilling to work as a team. Today, they are the opposite and we have seen that during “Mother´s Day” celebration.
Además de esto, estamos contentos porque nuestros niños continúan creciendo positivamente en sus actitudes y comportamiento. 3 años atrás, eran niños con pocas habilidades sociales, poco atentos y gustosos de trabajar en equipo. Hoy, son todo lo contrario y lo hemos apreciado durante la celebración por “El día de las Madres”.

“HAPPY MOTHER´S DAY” IN HUAYCAN

“FELIZ DÍA DE LA MADRE” EN HUAYCÁN

On May 8th, a group of volunteers of Gen ACTS went to Huaycan to celebrate “Mother´s Day” with the mothers of the PRONOEI “Gotitas del Saber”.

El sábado 08 de Mayo un grupo de voluntarios de Gen ACTS fueron a Huaycán para celebrar el “Día de la Madre” con las mamás del PRONOEI “Gotitas del Saber”.
The kids spent a good time sharing with our volunteers in a room while the mothers were in another room listening to a talk on “La salud y enfermedades de la mujer”.

Los niños pasaron un buen tiempo con nuestros voluntarios en un salón mientras las madres estuvieron en otro atendiendo a una charla sobre “La salud y las enfermedades de la mujer”.

Before the talk, the mothers introduced themselves and played a game together with the volunteers. We introduced a health professional, Mrs. Nancy Lazaro, who is one of our volunteers. Mrs. Nancy graduated from the Obstetrics in the University of San Marcos and worked in “Essalud Reategui” Hospital in Piura for 6 years. She also has worked in the National Hospital “Guillermo Almenara”, Lima, for 20 years, up till now.

Antes de la charla, las madres se presentaron en forma personal y compartieron un juego con nuestros voluntarios. Nosotros presentamos a nuestra profesional de la Salud, Sra. Nancy Lazaro, quien es una de nuestras voluntarias. La Sra.Nancy es graduada de la Facultad de Obstetricia de la Universidad de San Marcos y trabajó en el Hospital “Reategui” Essalud - Piura y también viene trabajando actualmente en el Hospital “Guillermo Almenara” en Lima por 20 años. Mrs. Nancy spoke to the mothers regarding how to take care of themselves so that they can be healthier and happier women and mothers. She taught them about the importance of the different parts of the bodies, how to examine themselves for sicknesses and how to prevent themselves from getting sick. The mothers show a lot of interest and asked many questions about their health.

Sra. Nancy habló a las madres sobre cómo cuidarse de si mismas para que puedan ser mujeres y madres más saludables y felices. Ella les enseñó sobre la importancia de las diferentes partes del cuerpo, como auto-examinarse en las enfermedades y a cómo prevenirnos de las enfermedades. Las madres mostraron mucho interés y hicieron muchas preguntas sobre su salud.

After the talk, the children and the volunteers entered the room. The children had been preparing a song and making a card for their mothers.

Después de la charla, los niños y nuestros voluntarios ingresaron al salón. Los niños habían estado preparando una canción y elaborando tarjetas para sus mamás.

Then the volunteers gave out food and drinks to the mothers and children while wishing the mothers a happy Mothers’ Day.

Luego los voluntarios sirvieron comida y bebidas para las madres y los niños mientras deseaban a la madres un feliz día mamá.

We spent a good time with all the beautiful mothers of Huaycan.

Pasamos un buen tiempo con todas las bellas mamás de Huaycán.

EDUCATION PROJECT WITH MUNICIPALITY OF HUANTAN

PROYECTO EDUCATIVO CON LA MUNICIPALIDAD DE HUANTAN

In February, Gen-Acts was invited by the Mayor of the Municipality of Huantan, Mr. Edgardo Guerrero Chulluncuy, to visit 3 schools ( Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary School ) in Huantan. Huantan is a small town located in the southern highland of Lima (An 8-hour trip by bus from Lima).

En Febrero, Gen-Acts fue invitado por el Alcalde de la Municipalidad de Huantan, Sr. Edgardo Guerrero Chulluncuy para visitar 3 escuelas ( Inicial, Primaria y Secundaria ) en Huantan. Huantan es un pequeño pueblo localizado en la Sierra Sur de Lima ( Un viaje de 8 horas por bus desde Lima ).

The objective of the visit was to explore an education project that would improve the quality of education in Huantan. The Gen-Acts team met with the principals, teachers and students to identify the needs of the schools and it then proposed a 3-part training program for Kids Alive! methodologies and S’pore MATH methodology.

El objetivo de esta visita fue explorar un proyecto educativo que mejore la calidad de la educación en Huantan. El equipo de Gen-Acts se reunió con los directores, profesores y estudiantes para identificar las necesidades de las escuelas y con ello propuso un programa de entrenamiento de 3 partes sobre las metodologías de Kids Alive! y la metodología de Singapur en la Matemática.

The Mayor was happy with the proposal and agreed to embark on the project. An agreement between the Municipality and Generation ACTS was then signed in March later. In this education project, teachers from Huantan (Kindergarten and Primary School) will receive 3 formal workshops in our club house. Follow-up will be done via a net webcam system, which will be set up by the Municipality.

El Alcalde estuvo feliz con la propuesta y estuvo de acuerdo con embarcarse en el proyecto. Un Acuerdo entre la Municipalidad y Generation ACTS fue luego firmado en el mes de Marzo. En este proyecto de educación, los profesores de Huantan ( Inicial y Primaria ) recibirán 3 talleres formales en nuestra casa-club. El seguimiento será hecho via un sistema de red webcam, el cual será arreglado por la Municipalidad.

Prior to commencement of the training program, an informal sharing session was conducted for a group of teachers from Huantan, in the presence of the Mayor, Mr. Edgardo. The informal sharing session about “Effective Classrooom Discipline and Basic English Review” took place on April 5th in our club house in Lima. It was well received by the Mayor and the teachers.

Previo al inicio del programa de entrenamiento, una sesión de compartir informal fue realizado para un grupo de profesores de Huantan con la presencia del Alcalde, Sr. Edgardo. La sesión de compartir informal trató sobre “Disciplina Efectiva en el aula de clase y Revisión Básica de Inglés” y tomó lugar el 5 de Abril en nuestra casa club en Lima lo que fue bien recibido por el Alcalde y los profesores.

APERTURA DEL PROGRAMA KIDS ALIVE! 2010

On March 20th , Generation ACTS Club International welcomed mothers from Aldeas Infantiles SOS, from Fe y Alegria No 43 School and from the public to share with them the achievements of their kids in the year 2009. It was also an opportunity for us to share what´s new this year in Kids ALIVE! for their children.

El 20 de Marzo, Generation ACTS Club International dió la bienvenida a las madres de Aldeas Infantiles SOS, del Colegio Fe y Alegria No 43 y del público Fue también una oportunidad para nosotros, compartir lo nuevo de este año en Kids ALIVE! para sus niños. para compartir con ellos los logros de sus niños en el año 2009.

Mothers not only had fun learning like students but at the same time, they could appreciate a short class of our project “Love of Reading” that focuses on encouraging our kids to have an interest in reading in English and promoting a healthy atmosphere in which good values are practiced and appreciated by the children.

Las madres no sólamente se divirtieron como estudiantes sino que al mismo tiempo, pudieron apreciar un fragmento de una de nuestras clases de nuestro proyecto “Amor a la lectura” que se enfoca en animar a nuestros niños a despertar su interés en leer en Inglés y promoviendo una atmósfera saludable en la cual los buenos valores son puestos en práctica y apreciados por los niños. Mothers commented that they were very happy and supportive of our work. They also showed interest to bring more kids to assessed in order to join our kids club.

Las madres comentaron estar muy felices y apoyadas por nuestro trabajo. Ellas también mostraron interés en traer más niños para ser evaluados e integrarse a nuestro club de niños.

GEN ACTS RENEWED AGREEMENT WITH ALDEAS INFANTILES SOS

GEN ACTS RENUEVA ACUERDO DE COOPERACIÓN CON ALDEAS INFANTILES SOS

In March 2010, Generation Club International renewed our partnership agreement with Aldeas Infantiles SOS for two more years, by providing a value-centered English education to the children living in the villages of this organization. This shows the trust that the Aldeas has in Generation ACTS.

En Marzo del 2010, Generation Club International renovó Acuerdo de Cooperación con Aldeas Infantiles SOS por dos años más, proveyendo Educación en Inglés centrado en valores para los niños que viven en las Aldeas de esta organización. Esto muestra la confianza que las Aldeas tienen en Generation ACTS.

Last Saturday, March 27th, 44 kids from the Aldeas SOS were assessed and registered to attend our value-centered English program under “ImpACTS” and “Hope for Kids” projects. The older kids will participate in a new group called “Pre-Teens” with a different atmosphere in which the academic level is more intensive and in which self-confidence will be developed in the young teenagers.

El Sábado 27 de Marzo, 44 niños de Aldeas SOS fueron evaluados y registrados para asistir a nuestro programa de Inglés centrado en valores bajo los proyectos “ImpACTS” y “Hope for Kids”. Los niños mayores participarán en un nuevo grupo llamado “Pre-Teens” con una atmósfera diferente en la cual el nivel académico es más intenso y en el cual la auto-confianza será desarrollado en los jóvenes adolescentes.

On Saturday, November 28th , We concluded our 2009 ImpACTS and Hope for Kids programs.
El sábado 28 de noviembre, concluímos nuestros programas ImpACTS y Hope for Kids 2009.

In 2009, our kids followed a curriculum guided by learning objectives which sistematically facilitated their learning.
En el 2009, nuestros niños siguieron un curriculum por objetivos el cual en forma sistemática facilitó su aprendizaje.

In parallel, the instilling of values in our kids was being emphasized through our code of conduct and “Chat & Discovery Time”.
En simultáneo, el fomento de valores en nuestros niños fue siempre remarcado a través de nuestro código de conducta y nuestro “Chat & Discovery Time”.
At the last event of the year, we organized our very first “KA! Olympics” in which the best teams and cheers would be selected and rewarded.

Inspired by the adventurous spirit of Mark Twain, I said ‘goodbye’ to Singapore and ‘hola’ to Peru to begin my two-month volunteer teaching program with GenACTs in Peru on 1 October 2009.
Inspirada por el espíritu aventurero de Mark Twain, le dije “adiós” a Singapur y “hola” a Perú para iniciar un programa de 02 meses de voluntariado para enseñar en Perú a través de GenACTS el 1ro de Octubre del 2009.
For two months, I taught English to Peruvian students in Kids Alive! (GenACTs), a public primary school (San Juan Bautista in Huaycan), PRONOEI (Huaycan) and a Girls’ Home (Nuevo Amanecer). I also conducted a teacher-training workshop for trainee teachers at Cantuta University to share teaching strategies, ideas and resources. It was a customized volunteer program that took into consideration my professional background as an English teacher and my areas of strengths and interest.
Por dos meses, enseñé Inglés a estudiantes Peruanos en Kids Alive! (GenACTS), una escuela pública - nivel primaria ( San Juan Bautista en Huaycan ), PRONOEI (Nido infantil en Huaycan)
y una Casa Hogar de Niñas ( Nuevo Amanecer ). También dirigí un taller de entrenamiento para futuros profesores en la Universidad La Cantuta donde compartí estrategias de enseñanza, ideas y recursos. Fue un programa hecho a la medida de mi perfil profesional como profesora de Inglés porque tomó en cuenta mis áreas de interés y mis fortalezas.
If there is just one word to describe my whole volunteer experience in Peru, it will be this – 101% - 101% enriching., 101% fulfilling, 101% memorable.
Si existe una sola forma de describir mi experiencia de voluntariado en Perú, será esta 101% que significa 101% enriquecedora, 101% satisfactoria, 101% memorable.

Peru is not a ‘love at first sight’ country for me. However, the warmth and hospitality of the Peruvians and the richness of her culture made me fall in love with her over time. I am sure I am not alone.
Para mí, Perú no es un país del cual uno “se enamora a primera vista”. Sin embargo, la calidez y la hospitalidad de los peruanos junto a la riqueza de su cultura hizo que me enamore de él en el transcurrir del tiempo. Estoy segura que no estoy sola.

At the end of the 3rd cycle, we celebrated Children’s Day with our kids on the 3rd of October. Every class put up a skit to present a value message to everyone. Seeing the kids perform and showcase their abilities in public, many teachers were heartened by their growth in confidence and creativity. At the end of the day, the kids who had the best performance in English learning time and Chat time were awarded with prizes.
El 3 de Octubre al final del 3er ciclo, celebramos el “El día del Niño”. Cada clase puso en escena un sketch para compartir un mensaje con valores. Viendo a los niños actuar y poner en vitrina sus habilidades en público, muchos profesores estuvieron animados por su crecimiento en confianza y creatividad. Al final del día, los niños que rindieron mejor en su tiempo de aprendizaje del Inglés y en nuestro “Chat Time” fueron reconocidos con premios.

Cycle 2, we started training our volunteers and in Cycle 3 they maximized their learning by applying commands and merit charts in their classes.
En 2do Ciclo, comenzamos entrenando a nuestros voluntarios y en el Ciclo 3ro Ellos maximizaron su aprendizaje aplicando instrucciones y carteles de méritos en sus clases.

Our volunteers introduced the “Merit Chart” to evaluate, session by session, the class performance, i.e. attitude and behavior of each student.

VACACIONES ÚTILES! HOPE KIDS

Three words would describe our “Vacaciones útiles” well:
¡Fun, practical and meaningful!
Tres palabras describen muy bien nuestras “Vacaciones útiles”.
¡Divertido, práctico y significativo!.
Our kids not only played games and sports but also they were encouraged to work as a team for cooking and serving healthy and delicious food.
Nuestros niños no sólo jugaron y practicaron deportes sino tambien fueron motivados a trabajar en equipo para cocinar y servir deliciosas y saludables comidas.
Beside, they built and colored small wooden house-like shelves. All the time, our volunteers spoke to our kids in English so that they could easily remember the English words in a real life context.
Además, construyeron y pintaron una pequeña casa de madera para usarla como estante. Todo el tiempo, nuestros voluntarios hablaron a nuestros niños en Inglés para que puedan recordar las palabras en un contexto de la vida real.
All this wonderful time took place on the last two weeks of July.

...........Levanten su mano para participar!, etc, etc.” Our last class of our second cycle in KA! took place on the 18th of July where all our volunteers shared a special “Chat Time” with our kids. We brought the kids to a nearby park in order to spend a practical and meaningful time together.
Nuestra última clase en el Segundo ciclo de KA! tomó lugar el 18 de Julio donde todos nuestros voluntarios compartieron un “Chat Time” especial con nuestros niños. Los niños fueron llevados a un parque cercano para pasar un tiempo práctico y significativo con nosotros.
This activity had two objectives. Firstly, to train our volunteers on how to manage group of kids in different scenarios in a practical way. Secondly, to cultivate the habit of orderliness, attentiveness and cooperation in our kids by teaching them the English commands.
Esta actividad tuvo dos objetivos. Primeramente, entrenar a nuestros voluntarios en como manejar a grupo de niños en diferentes escenarios en un modo práctico. Segundo, para cultivar el hábito de orden, atención y cooperación en nuestros niños enseñándoles comandos en Inglés.
During the feedback time with our volunteers, all of us agreed to have another round of special “Chat Time” on “Commands” . We all believe that all these commands should be practised in and out of our classrooms.
Durante el tiempo de feedback con nuestros voluntarios, todos acordamos en tener otra ronda de “Chat Time” sobre “Comandos”. Todos estamos convencidos que estos comandos deberían ser practicados dentro y fuera de nuestras aulas de clase.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING PROGRAM – KA! CODE OF CONDUCT

PROGRAMA DE ENTRENAMIENTO – CÓDIGO DE CONDUCTA KIDS ALIVE!

How about a Kid who disturbs others during the class, for first time? ¿What action would you take according to our “KA! Code of Conduct”?
¿Qué sucede si un niño perturba a los demás en clase, por primera vez? ¿Qué acciones tomarían conforme a nuestro Código de Conducta en KA!?

Questions such as the above were being answered and the corresponding follow-up action demonstrated during our volunteer training program about “KA! Code of Conduct”. Our professional and youth volunteers invested 2 Saturdays in the training program to further enhance the quality of their teaching in our kids club. Preguntas como las de arriba con las correspondientes acciones a tomar fueron respondidas y demostradas durante nuestro programa de entrenamiento sobre nuestro “Código de Conducta KA!”. Nuestros profesionales y jóvenes voluntarios invirtieron 2 sábados en nuestro programa de entrenamiento para elevar la calidad de su servicio de enseñanza en nuestro club de niños. “Remember, a good teacher must be one who is able to create a positive atmosphere for kids’ learning and one who is a good model of values and authority.”, Our Project Specialist and experienced teacher Mr. Oscar Collantes shared this, to encourage the volunteers to follow our CLEAR and STRICT Code of Conduct.
“Recuerden, un buen profesor es alguien capaz de crear una buena atmósfera para el aprendizaje de los niños siendo un buen modelo de valores y de autoridad.”, esto fué lo que compartió nuestro Especialista de Proyectos y Profesor experimentado Oscar Collantes, para animar a los voluntarios a seguir nuestro CLARO y ESTRICTO Código de Conducta.

Our Code of Conduct, which includes all possible misbehaviors from the lightest to the most serious ones, was presented in a Flow Chart to help our volunteers identify and apply the most correct and fair action of discipline.
Nuestro Código de Conducta, el cual incluye todas las posibles mala-conductas desde las más ligeras hasta las más serias, fue presentado en un Diagrama de Flujo para ayudar a nuestros voluntarios en identificar y aplicar la acción de disciplina más correcta y justa.

Based on the Flow Chart, the volunteers had an interactive time where they simulated different scenarios of misbehaviours and disciplinary actions through role play. It was fun yet helpful for all the volunteer teachers to personalize and set the same standard of discipline in their respective classes.
Basados en este Diagrama de Flujo, los voluntarios tuvieron un tiempo interactivo donde simularon diferentes escenarios de mala-conductas con acciones disciplinarias a través del teatro. Fue muy divertido pero también muy útil para que nuestros profesores voluntarios puedan personalizar y seguir el mismo estándar de disciplina en sus respectivas clases.

MOTHER’S DAY IN HUAYCAN

DIA DE LAS MADRES EN HUAYCAN

" I love you mother, deep down in my heart.. Deep down in my heart.." It was such a sweet time to see the kids singing English songs to their mothers!
“te amo mamá, desde lo más profundo de mi corazón……desde lo más profundo de mi corazón.....” fue un momento muy dulce el ver que los niños le canten canciones en Inglés a sus madres!

On the 16th of May, we went down to PRONOEI “Gotitas del Saber” – Q Zone in Huaycan to celebrate Mother's day with all the mothers there. There were a total of 30 mothers. Every mother received a packet of groceries, which contained rice and sugar. We also had a lucky draw to give out our grand prizes to some of the "lucky" mothers on that day. Thanks to all the people who donated groceries, and all the youths from Youth ALIVE! to bring cheers through the wonderful games and singing.
El 16 de Mayo, fuimos hasta el PRONOEI “Gotitas del Saber” – Zona Q de Huaycan para celebrar el “Día de la Madre” con las mamás de esta escuelita. Hubieron un total de 30 madres. Cada madre recibió una canasta de víveres, las cuales contenían arroz y azúcar. Tambien realizamos una rifa para entregar premios especiales a las madres afortunadas en ese día. Mil Gracias a todas las personas que donaron víveres, y a todos los jóvenes de Youth ALIVE! que pusieron la alegría llevando maravillosos juegos y canciones.

KA! Mother's Day

On the 9th of May, Hope Place was filled with love and excitement! Not only were the kids were excited busy preparing presentations for their mothers, our volunteers also put up a skit to bless the mothers as well. As for the volunteers, it was our maiden presentation together! El 9 de Mayo, nuestro Hope Place ( Asi llamamos a nuestro lugar de recepción ) estuvo lleno de amor y mucho entusiasmo!. Los niños no sólamente estuvieron muy entusiasmados y ocupados en sus presentaciones para sus madres, nuestros voluntarios también pusieron en escena un sketch para bendecirlas en su día. Ellos se juntaron por primera vez para realizar una singular presentación!

Many mothers were touched by the presentations and the kids’ testimonies. Many mothers had tears of joy when they saw their own photos being shown in the video. Muchas madres estuvieron muy emocionadas por las presentaciones y testimonios de sus hijos. Ellas lloraron de alegría cuando vieron sus propias fotos mostradas en un video.

In March, our “Chat & Discovery Time” was supported by three mothers from “Fe y Alegría”. In April, we had another three mothers who were helping us, they are Maximina, Lourdes and Vilma from SOS-Zarate.

Kids ALIVE! of Generation ACTS Club international was selected and invited together with other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to participate in a photo exhibition that was organized by APCI (Asociación Peruana de Cooperación Internacional) to celebrate APCI 's VII anniversary. Some of our KA! photos were selected to be showcased in the art gallery of Petroperú in San Isidro from the 16th of April to the 21st of April .

Kids ALIVE! de Generation ACTS Club international fue seleccionado e invitado junto con otras organizaciones no-gubernamentales (ONGs) para participar en una muestra de fotos que fue organizada por la APCI (Asociación Peruana de Cooperación Internacional) con motivo de celebrar su VII aniversario. On the 28th of March, our kids received a medical talk about “pediculosis” that was conducted by our volunteer ,Claudia Patricia Bertoli, a nurse.
El 28 de marzo, nuestros niños recibieron una charla médica sobre “la pediculosis” que fue conducido por nuestra voluntaria, Claudia Patricia Bertoli, una enfermera.
Claudia explained in details to our kids about the different ways that they could be infested, the various treatments and head lice prevention methods.
Claudia explicó en detalles a nuestros niños sobre los diferentes modos en que ellos podrían ser infestados, los diferentes tratamientos y los métodos de prevención contra los piojos en la cabeza.

This is the first topic in our “HYGIENE IS HEALTH” series with the kids in our first cycle in Kids ALIVE!. Through this series of talks on hygiene to the kids, we hope to cultivate good hygiene practices in the kids so that they will know how to take care of their personal hygiene as well.

On the 14th of March, we began our cycle with our first class in Kids ALIVE! 2009.
El 14 de Marzo, comenzamos nuestro ciclo con nuestra primera clase en Kids ALIVE! 2009. Each program has its own curriculum to develop the kids according to their level.
Cada programa tiene su propio curriculum para desarrollar a los niños de acuerdo a su nivel.

The whole community of Kids ALIVE!, including all the teachers, volunteers and parents who volunteered are encouraged to follow the code of conduct of KA! in order to be consistent in how we treat the kids and in hope that we can demonstrate the values through our behavior.
La comunidad entera de Kids ALIVE!, incluyendo a todos los profesores, voluntarios y padres que hacen voluntariado son animados en seguir el código de conducta de KA! para ser constantes en el trato con los niños y con la esperanza que podamos demostrar valores a través de nuestro comportamiento.
The classes of “Hope for Kids” and “ImpACTS” had a meaningful time during “Chat & Discovery Time” in which they had the opportunity to learn values through different activities.
Las clases de “Hope for Kids” e “ImpACTS” tuvieron un tiempo significativo durante el “Chat & Discovery Time” donde tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender valores a través de diferentes actividades.

This year we also selected some kids who are more mature to join a special “chat time” organized by the Youth Alive!. Our desire is to see our kids continue to be equipped and educated accordingly at different stages of life.

Through these words we welcomed and showed our gratitude to our professional volunteers to renew their commitment to invest their valuable time not only to teach but also to be a good model of values for our kids.

On the 7th of March, we welcomed our mothers from the organizations (“AISOS” and “Fé y Alegría”) and the public. There are 43 kids that are going to join us this year.
El 7 de Marzo, dimos la bienvenida a nuestras madres de las organizaciones ( “AISOS” y “Fé y Alegría”) y del público. Hay 43 niños que estarán con nosotros este año.
We feel so excited because this year, KA! is going to do something different not just merely to improve our kids’ English level even further, but also to deepen our kids’ value even further.
Nos sentimos muy entusiasmados porque este año, KA! hará algo diferente que no sólo será mejorar el nivel de Inglés de los niños sino que queremos que ellos vayan aún más lejos en sus estudios. Del mismo modo, queremos profundizar aún más en la práctica de sus valores.
We introduced some of the educational games to the mothers and we played together with them. Later the mothers were challenged to write an acrostic about a given value.
Presentamos y jugamos algunos de nuestros juegos educacionales junto con las madres. Más tarde, las madres fueron retadas en escribir un acróstico sobre un “valor” determinado.

We are very encouraged to see the enthusiasm of mothers participating in the games.
Estuvimos muy animados de ver el entusiasmo de las madres participando en los juegos.
At the end, each group of mothers shared their creative acrostics. Through this simple game, we sought to help the mothers to understand what our “Chat Time” will be like and we hope to encourage them to join us to be a chat time helper to demonstrate the values together.
Al final, cada grupo de madres compartió sus creativos acrósticos. Por medio de este simple juego tratamos de hacer entender a las madres de cómo será nuestro “Chat Time” y que esperamos que se sientan animadas de participar como un ayudante para demostrar valores juntos con nosotros.
Our Project Manager, Ms. Ruth Chong also shared with mothers “The impact of Parental Involvement in child education” and its positive results according to statistics to encourage the parents to be involved in their kids’ education and activities.

This year 2009 KA!, we seek to partnership with the parents in these 2 major areas:

1. Playing with the kids together during “Creation Time” because we believe that playtime is valuable and children learn through play.

2. Values demonstrations during “Chat Time” because we believe it’s important demonstrate the right values to our kids. Be a role model. Values are not taught, lectured about or professed, they are only demonstrated.

It was a very meaningful project to all the volunteers, kids and parents. We are so encouraged to see the kids benefit much from the projects and we definitely hope to make more “IMPACT” in Huaycan’s kids! We are offering financial subsidy for the kids who have performed well in ImpACTS - HUAYCAN. We hope that the parents and kids will continue with us in our Kids ALIVE! beginning in March.

NUESTROS HEROES

Terminamos un ciclo de verano Kids ALIVE! en Huaycan. Al principio no teníamos idea de quienes serían los voluntarios que estarían dispuestos en invertir su tiempo en este hermoso proyecto pero al final uno a uno fueron llegando y cada uno de ellos aportó mucho al equipo y fue alguien especial para los niños de Huaycan.

Carla, siempre sonriente, estudiante de traducción de los últimos ciclos de la Universidad Ricardo Palma.Verónica, una Austriaca de buen corazón, graduada en administración de empresas y negocios internacionales en la Universidad del Pacifico .

¿Cómo se sintieron en el proyecto Huaycan?

Carla, en particular, me sentí bien porque ví que tengo la voluntad de ayudar a los demás cuando me lo propongo. Fue una experiencia interesante y grata porque compartí conocimientos y buenos momentos con los colegas que trabajé.

Verónika, me gustó mucho ser parte de este proyecto. El grupo de voluntarios era excelente. Era muy agradable colaborar con esta gente ya que el ambiente siempre estaba bien positivo. Además uno tenía el sentimiento de hacer algo bueno y útil ayudando en la realización de este proyecto.

Fiorella, me sentí muy cómoda trabajar con mis compañeros y se que todos hemos puesto nuestro granito de arena, para estas clases de ingles. Me siento muy contenta ver los frutos de todo este mes, pequeñas cosas que no olvidare y los rostros de mis pequeños dando su presentación de todo lo aprendido. Fue una experiencia inolvidable.

Alonso, me pareció una experiencia gratificante y muy satisfactoria, jamás había participado en un proyecto así pero me sentí a gusto de todo lo que viví, al comienzo fue difícil acoplarse a un grupo nuevo pero poco a poco me fui sintiendo como parte de ellos.

Renzo, me sentí muy bien en el proyecto Huaycan. Pues bien me gusto la idea de poder enseñar a niños que lo necesitan y no solo ahora si no también en el futuro.

Anthony, yo estuve en Kids Alive y me sentí como en una familia ahora que crecí me ofrecí como voluntario, ellos me enseñaron y con lo que aprendí, enseñarles a otros niños que lo necesitan me parece un proyecto que nunca debe acabar que Dios siempre va estar con este proyecto cuidándonos y haciendo crecer este proyecto y que vengan mas niños que quieran aprender el inglés.

¿Qué aprendiste del proyecto Huaycan?
Carla, hay que compartir las cosas o los conocimientos que uno tiene con las personas que realmente lo necesitan, eso te llena más como persona y te das cuenta de cuanto puedes hacer. Eso es lo que más vale.

Verónika, Siempre sabía que hay mucha gente necesitada y no educada en el Perú y Lima, pero nunca tuve la posibilidad de hacer algo contra esto. Se que el proyecto Huaycan no cambia el mundo, pero es una pequeña parte, un inicio, y me hizo sentir bien ser parte de esto. Creo que lo más lindo era ver a las mamas el último día y ver en sus ojos cuanto valoraban lo que hicimos con sus hijos.
Además es muy valeroso al nivel personal de darse cuenta de lo que verdaderamamente es importante en este mundo. Saber de las cosas malas que pasan es otra cosa que verlas. Es justamente esto que nos hace valorar lo que tenemos y ver nuestros problemas como lo que realmente son: secundarios. Ayuda a valorar lo que tenemos y darse cuenta que es ridículo renegar de cosas pequeñas y pensar que necesitamos una u otra cosa más para ser felices.

Fiorella, aprendí a creer mas en mis compañeros, también a tener más responsabilidades, trabajar en un grupo muy unido y a comprender más a los niños .También es mi primera vez que enseño a niños de ocho años y me encanto esta experiencia.

Alonso, de este proyecto rescato que aprendí la responsabilidad en general e individual, ya que no solo éramos uno que trabajaba sino todos, ya que tenían un plan elaborado, y nos lo trasmitían con el transcurrir de las clases y hacían que cada uno de nosotros tengamos una elaboración, por mi parte me toco un grupo un poco dificultoso, ya que eran menores de 6 años, que por ratos desesperaban pero poco a poco fuimos enseñándoles, Gracias a Dios me toco un grupo de personas muy inteligentes y experimentadas como miss Lidia Y Ruth que me enseñaban y me daban pautas cada día que nos tocaba ir, rescato la honestidad de estos menores ya que con sus pocos recursos nunca quisieron llevarse o apropiarse de algo, como todo niño por la edad traviesos pero con lo poco que he podido conocerlos los tendré en mi corazón y a aquellas personas que participaron conmigo.

Renzo, lo que aprendi es ayudar, el ayudar es una sensación que te hace feliz.

Anthony, yo aprendí muchas cosas de verdad la primera es trabajar en grupo todos cooperarnos ayudarnos y respetándolos aprendí que hay niños que necesitan aprender y que tienen muchas ganas de aprender y aprendí como ver la capacidad de los niños como son como manejarlos y como enseñarles y como hablarles etc. aprendí que hay niños que tienen ocultas sus capacidades que deben sacarlo de adentro que cada uno tiene una capacidad por que Dios nos la dio gracias a los niños lindísimos aprendí muchas cosas.

¿Qué piensas del programa Kids ALIVE?
Carla, el proyecto me parece que va a beneficiar a los niños de la zona mayormente pero también, habrá que ver las posibilidades de seguir construyendo un proyecto mayor para que no sólo se queden con esos niños que ya recibieron dicha enseñanza sino que abarque
otras zonas también. Los niños son la base de todo esto, sin ellos no hubiera sido posible colaborar y ayudar a esta causa.

Verónica, Brindar educación a niños pobres y necesitados me parece el trabajo más importante que existe en zonas "subdesarrolladas" y pobres. Solamente así pueden mejorar su situación y la de sus hijos y nietos. Los niños son el futuro-es por esto que darles educación a ellos es la mejor manera de ayudar a una sociedad. El programa Kids Alive hace justamente esto: Da a los niños una educación. No se trata solamente de ingles etc. sino también de valores generales que son importantes para el futuro de los niños.

Fiorella,El programa me parece súper interesante que organizaciones como estas apoyen a niños de bajos recursos .Y apuesten por la educación de los niños de Huaycan. El programa ImpACTS Huaycan cumplió mas que mis expectativas .Me gustaría que hayan más proyectos así.

Alonso, es un programa muy bien elaborado a mi parecer esta bien organizado con estas 7 veces que he podido asistir en este proyecto, se ve la dedicación de complacer a los niños necesitados de tener la paciencia y el tiempo de organizarlos y de saber con que niños poder trabajar y no solo enseñar sino llegar a lo mas profundo de ellos con el día a día, este proyecto no constaba mas que de dos días a la semana pero era como si fuéramos todos los días y la asistencia de los colaboradores y la paciencia de algunos encargados de este proyecto para mi esto no quedara en el tiempo sino quedara como recordando que un día después de mucho tiempo un grupo de personas muy dedicadas y con ansias de colaboración pudieron llegar a lo que es una gran ciudad y transformar sabe Dios a estos pocos niños no solo en lo estudiantil y lo provechoso sino en lo social, moral y psicológico.

Renzo, lo que opino sobre Kids Alive es que es muy bueno que personas con tan buen corazón hagan esto.

Anthony, el proyecto Kids Alive me parece un proyecto de personas de gran corazón con gran cariño que están dispuestos a dar su valioso tiempo para enseñar a los lindos niños pienso que ese proyecto siga siempre por eso invito a mas voluntarios para que vayan con nosotros que es una linda experiencia que nunca olvidaras Kids Alive de verdad me parece una esperanza de niños es un proyecto muy lindo que ayudan a muchas personas

PROYECTO HUAYCAN

This summer is going to be very different! Why? Kids Alive! is now in Huaycan!!
Este verano será muy diferente! ¿Por qué? Kids Alive! ahora esta en Huaycan!!

We have kick-started our pilot project " ImpACTS Huaycan" this summer, working together with ACAPAN.
Nosotros hemos comenzado este verano nuestro proyecto piloto “ImpACTS Huaycan”, trabajando juntos con ACAPAN.
On the 5th of January, our professional and youth volunteers went to a small town - Huaycan - to carry out an evaluation with the kids living there.
El 5 de Enero, nuestros profesionales y jovenes voluntarios fueron al pequeño pueblo de Huaycan para llevar a cabo una evaluación con los niños que viven allí.

The kids were being evaluated based on their logical thinking ability (basic Mathematics calculations) & linguistic ability in English. The attitude and behaviour of the kids were also being assessed through observation and communication with the kids.
La evaluación de los niños fue basada en su pensamiento lógico ( Cálculo de Matemática básica) y habilidad lingüística en Inglés. La actitud y el comportamiento de los niños tambien fue evaluada a través de la observación y la comunicación con ellos.
The selected kids will have the privilege to join "ImpACTS Huaycan" to maximise their summer with us through our "Kids Alive!" learning methodology.
Los niños seleccionados tendrán el privilegio de participar en “ImpACTS Huaycan” para maximizar su verano con nosotros a través de nuestra metodología de aprendizaje “Kids Alive”.
Through this project, we seek to cultivate good values with the kids in the Huaycan Pronoeis (government-subsidised kindergartens) and to develop the kids' intelligences in our Play and Learn program. Every lesson will be conducted in English under the guidance of our experienced teachers from Kids Alive! program.
A través de este proyecto, buscamos cultivar buenos valores con los niños en los Pronoeis de Huaycan ( Nidos Infantiles subsidiados por el gobierno ) y para desarrollar las inteligencias de los niños en nuestro programa que combina el juego con el aprendizaje. Cada lección será conducida en Inglés bajo la guía de nuestros experimentados profesores de nuestro programa Kids Alive!

Our volunteers invested their precious time to teach and cultivate good values in our kids, in our Singapore Mathematics Class, English Class, Medical Examination, Children Day, Kids Exploration Camp “FUN 247”, etc. All of these will not come to pass without the sacrifices and contributions from our volunteers.
Nuestros voluntarios invirtieron su precioso tiempo para enseñar y cultivar buenos valores en nuestros niños, en nuestras clases de Matemática con el modelo de Singapur, en nuestras clases de Inglés, Examen Médico, Día del Niño, Campamento de Exploración “FUN 247”, etc. Todo esto no hubiese sido posible sin los sacrificios y contribuciones de nuestros voluntarios.

El 27 de Diciembre, tuvimos un almuerzo especial, con una combinación de comida Singapuriana y platos Peruanos típicos con nuestros voluntarios. Christmas is coming! Our dear little friends from PRONOEI “GOTITAS DEL SABER” in Huaycan were amongst the first ones to welcome it. These little children were very happy and excited to welcome us, and of course the chocolatada (a drink of chocolate with milk) as well……Our youth volunteers and ACAPAN organization brought them Christmas Cheer!

La Navidad llega y los primeros en recibirla son nuestros queridos amiguitos del PRONOEI “GOTITAS DEL SABER” en Huaycan. Estos pequeños nos recibieron muy alegres y a su vez esperando la rica chocolatada…Nuestros Jóvenes voluntarios y la Organización ACAPAN quienes llevaron el Espíritu Navideño!

“NAVIFUN – KIDS ALIVE 2008”

On Saturday, December 13th our “Hope Kids” and “ImpACTS” kids shared a special end cycle celebration with Christmas cheer in the Club House. Their parents or tutors were also invited to receive the Report Cards.
El sábado 13 de diciembre nuestros niños de “Hope for Kids” e “ImpACTS” compartieron una celebración especial de fin de ciclo con entusiasmo navideño en la Casa-Club. Sus padres o tutores fueron tambien invitados para recibir las libretas de notas.

The performance of the kids had been assessed holistically based on their attendance, academic advancement and learning behavior/attitudes. Every kid would be given a personal Report Card with comments by their teacher. It is a great joy to end this cycle because all our kids successfully completed the cycle!.
El rendimiento de los niños ha sido evaluado holísticamente basado en su asistencia, avance académico junto a su comportamiento y actitud de aprendizaje. Cada niño recibió su libreta de notas con comentarios de su profesor. Es una gran alegría el final de este ciclo porque todos nuestros niños lo han completado exitosamente.!

With so much to celebrate, the kids were treated with a special time of celebration, and of course fun!.
Con mucho que celebrar, los niños fueron tratados con un tiempo especial de celebración, y claro tambien con diversión.
They were brought by our professional and youth volunteers to a nearby park. They were asked to complete a series of challenging tasks ( also called “station games”). Each task was linked to Christmas and the kids needed to work as a team through the “station games”. It was fun to see them learn through fun!.
Los niños fueron llevados por nuestros profesionales y jóvenes voluntarios hacia un parque cercano. Luego fueron solicitados en completar una serie de tareas-reto ( tambien llamados “station games”). Cada tarea estaba relacionada con la Navidad y los niños necesitaban trabajar en equipo en los “station games”. Fue divertido verlos aprender con diversión!.

Our kids were blindfolded and guided by a friend in their team to look for pieces of puzzle. Which team would be the most attentive?.......
Nuestros niños fueron vendados y guiados por un amigo en su equipo para buscar piezas de un rompecabezas…¿Cuál equipo será el más atento?
Our kids also practiced quickly a Christmas song “Mi burrito sabanero” and immediately they needed to ask permission, to sing to the people in the park.
Which team would have the most initiative?.......
Nuestros niños tambien practicaron rápidamente una canción navideña “Mi burrito sabanero” e inmediatamente necesitaron pedir permiso para cantar a las personas en el parque.¿Qué equipo tendrá más iniciativa?
At the end, all of us enjoyed a good time and we went back to the Club House and proceeded do the last sharing time of the year.
Al final, todos disfrutamos un buen tiempo y regresamos a la Casa-Club y procedimos con el último tiempo de compartir del año.
Kids tasted a delicious “chocolatada” ( a drink made of milk with chocolate ) with “paneton” ( Traditional Christmas bread in Perú ).
Los niños disfrutaron de una deliciosa “chocolatada” ( una bebida hecha de leche con chocolate ) con “panetón” ( Un Pan Tradicional Navideño en Perú ).
Kids also received a Christmas Card, made by a friend from a different class, with a present delivered by their teachers……..
Los niños tambien recibieron una tarjeta navideña, hecha por un amigo de una clase diferente, con un presente entregado por sus profesores……

CAMPAMENTO DE EXPLORACION "FUN 247"

We organized a two-days-one-night Kids Exploration Camp at Club Social Centromin (Chosica) on 7-8 Dec.

Organizamos un campamento de 2 días – 1 noche de exploración con los niños en el Club Social Centromin ( Chosica ) el 7 y 8 de Diciembre.

There was a total of 22 Kids in the camp. The camp aimed to develop the kids in their abilities to appreciate the nature through exploration and creative expressions.

Tuvimos 22 niños en total y el objetivo del campamento fue desarrollar en los niños sus habilidades para apreciar la naturaleza a través de la exploración y la expresión creativa.

In the beautiful resort environment, the kids participated in a series of outdoor activities in teams. They interacted amongst themselves and formed good bonding and friendships.

En el hermoso ambiente del resort, los niños participaron en equipos en una serie de actividades al aire libre. Ellos interactuaron entre sí formando buenos lazos y una buena amistad.

After the camp, some kids went home telling all their friends in the neighborhood about all the fun and learning they had. I guess they really had a great memorable time!
Después del campamento, los niños regresaron a casa contándoles a sus amigos de su vecindario sobre lo mucho que se divirtieron y aprendieron. Creemos que ellos realmente tuvieron un gran tiempo memorable!
The camp committee felt so happy and fulfilled that the kids brought home loads of good memories and learning!
El comité organizador del campamento se sintió muy feliz y satisfecho en que los niños llevaran a casa buenos recuerdos y buenas lecciones!

APERTURA DE NUEVO LOCAL "KIDS ALIVE"

On October 25th, took place the open house of our new club-house located in Roca y Boloña – Miraflores ( Block 56 Roosevelt Avenue ). We were pleased to welcome our kids’s parents.
El 25 de Octubre, se realizó el open house de nuestra nueva casa club ubicada en Roca y Boloña – Miraflores ( Cuadra 56 de Av. Roosevelt - antes República de Panamá ). Nosotros estuvimos complacidos en dar la bienvenida a los padres de nuestros niños.

Besides, we remembered and shared the unforgettable times such as “Children Day” and “Math Challenge” that we spent with our students of our projects “Hope for Kids” and “ImpACTS.”
Además, recordamos y compartimos los inolvidables momentos tales como “Día del Niño” y “Reto Matemático” que pasamos juntos con nuestros estudiantes de nuestros proyectos “Hope for Kids” e “ImpACTS.”
Children prepared a presentation to their parents. The smallest ones danced and sang while two children of the older ones gave a speech in Spanish and English, Candy and Anthony.
Los niños prepararon una presentación para sus padres. Los más pequeños bailaron y cantaron mientras que dos de los más grandes dedicaron unas palabras en Español e Inglés, Candy y Anthony.
It was an important time to renew our commitment as teachers and parents to keep supporting the education of our children and also to introduce parents our new manager of “Generation ACTS Club International”, Andrew Teoh.
Tambien fue una oportunidad para renovar nuestro compromiso como profesores y padres para continuar apoyando la educación de nuestros niños y tambien para presentar a los padres a nuestro nuevo gerente de “Generation ACTS Club International”, Andrew Teoh.
Andrew talked to parents about the great advantages that our new club-house offers to our kids and our methodology which stimulate them to develop 8 intelligences and the opportunity that they go on their development in our Youth club.
Andrew conversó con los padres sobre las grandes ventajas que nuestra nueva casa-club ofrece a nuestros niños y nuestra metodología la cual les estimula su desarrollo en 8 inteligencias y la oportunidad para que ellos continúen su desarrollo en nuestro club de jóvenes.
At the end, parents were invited to appreciate the games and toys we use to develop their children and also they were encouraged to volunteer with us.
Al final, los padres fueron invitados para apreciar los juegos y juguetes que usamos para desarrollar a sus niños y tambien ellos fueron animados en participar como voluntarios con nosotros.

MATH COMPETITION

COMPETENCIA DE MATEMATICA

On September the 27th, our “Hope for Kids” and “ImpACTS” kids had their first “Math Competition” in our clubhouse. We began our morning with icebreaking games so that the kids from different classes had good interactions with each other. Before we went into the competition proper, the kids were led by our professionals volunteers to perform the “Brain Gym” exercises.
El pasado 27 de Setiembre, nuestros niños de “Hope for Kids” e “ImpACTS” tuvieron su primera “Competencia de Matemática” en nuestra casa club. Iniciamos la mañana con dinámicas de integración para que los niños de diferentes clases tuvieran una buena interacción. Antes de iniciar la competencia, los niños fueron guiados por nuestros profesionales voluntarios para realizar sus ejercicios de "Brain Gym".

In the actual competition, our kids were challenged to be both good thinkers in Math as well as good team-players. Through 2 competitive games and to win, they needed to apply all they had learned. "Learning in play" is always an important methodology to stimulate and develop the learning skill and intelligences of our kids. Through their group scores, we would identify the winners in the GROUP category.Besides, the kids were also given individual test for the prizes in the INDIVIDUAL category.
En la competencia, nuestros niños fueron retados en ser buenos pensadores de Matemática y también en ser buenos compañeros de equipo. Ellos tenían que aplicar todo lo que habían aprendido para ganar a través de 2 juegos competitivos. El "Aprender jugando" es siempre una importante metodología para estimular y desarrollar la capacidad de aprendizaje y el desarrollo de las inteligencias de nuestros niños. Con los resultados, nosotros identificaríamos a los ganadores en la categoría GRUPAL. Además, los niños tambien tomaron un test para los premios en la categoría INDIVIDUAL.

At the end of our competition, All our kids received a certificate of participation for being consistent in our Math Cycle.

Al final de nuestra competencia, todos nuestros niños recibieron un certificado de participación por su constancia en nuestro ciclo de Matemática.

Beside, best groups and students were awarded with special prizes as well.
Además de esto, los mejores grupos y estudiantes fueron premiados con presentes especiales.

The kids showed great progress in their learning of English and Math. It was indeed a meaningful and worthwhile Cycle both for the kids and the teachers.
Los niños mostraron un gran progreso en su aprendizaje de Inglés y Matemática. Todo ello, confirma que nuestro Ciclo valió la pena y fue significativo para los niños y sus profesores.

VALOR DEL RESPETO

Every week, at the end of the classes, our kids continue sharing a meaningful time with our volunteers. The volunteers will tell a story which focuses on an important value.
Cada semana, al final de las clases, nuestros niños continúan compartiendo un tiempo significativo con nuestros voluntarios quienes cuentan una historia la cual se enfoca en un valor importante.

Last Saturday, our kids were asked to draw and write to describe what they can do to show respect to other people. The goal of that is to make them appreciate that everyone is different and everyone deserves to be respected as an individual. The lion is the icon that represents this important value of RESPECT.
El sábado pasado, nuestros niños dibujaron y escribieron describiéndose ellos mismos y sobre lo que pueden hacer para mostrar respeto a otras personas. El objetivo de esto es hacerlos reflexionar que cada uno es diferente y que merece ser respetado como es. El león es el ícono que representa este importante valor del RESPETO.

PROYECTO "HOPE FOR KIDS" EN HUAYCAN

On 6th September, a fine saturday morning, our youth and professional volunteers visited PRONOEI “Gotitas del Saber” in Huaycan.
El 6 de setiembre, un buen sábado por la mañana, nuestros jóvenes y profesionales voluntarios visitaron el PRONOEI “Gotitas del Saber” en Huaycan.

They donated and hand-delivered educational toys to kids who had been assessed and selected by our professional volunteers. Gen-ACTS has trained a group of PRONOEI teachers in the methodology of developing 8 important intelligences through the toys . They will train the kids accordingly.
Ellos donaron y entregaron juguetes educativos a los niños quienes han sido evaluados y seleccionados por nuestros profesionales voluntarios. Gen-ACTS ha entrenado a un grupo de maestras del PRONOEI en la metodología de desarrollar 8 importantes inteligencias por medio de los juguetes. Ellas se encargaran de enseñar a los niños conforme a su entrenamiento.

In the meantime, our youth volunteers brought much fun to our godchildren through a wonderful game and dance time.
Al mismo tiempo, nuestros jóvenes voluntarios llevaron mucha diversión para nuestros apadrinados por medio de un maravilloso tiempo de juego y baile.

VOLUNTARIA DE SINGAPUR REGRESA A CASA

Last week, a pioneer of our branch club and a teacher in our Kids ALIVE! classes, went back home after 6 years of being in Perú. She is Delia, let’s see what she says about her experience.
La semana pasada, una pionera de nuestra sucursal club y profesora en nuestras clases de Kids Alive! regresó a casa después de 6 años en Perú. Ella es Delia, veamos lo que dice sobre su experiencia.
Delia: “It has been a privilege to serve kids and youths and invest my life in them. The most meaningful thing is that I have contributed to the change in their lives. In Youth ALIVE !, we have a vision that youths are the future of the country and that they have the potential to become an impact in society and that is why we began this project.”
Delia: “Ha sido un privilegio servir a los niños y jóvenes e invertir mi vida en ellos. Lo más gratificante es haber contribuído en cambiar sus vidas. En Youth ALIVE !, tenemos la visión que los jóvenes son el futuro del país y que ellos tienen el potencial para llegar a ser un impacto en la sociedad y eso es por lo que comenzamos este proyecto.”
Now, Delia has not only gone back home but she will also be working in our headquarters of Generation ACTS Club International in Singapore.
Ahora, Delia no solamente ha regresado a casa sino que estará trabajando en nuestra sede principal de Generation ACTS Club Internacional en Singapur.
